Le ministre propose au Musée de faire un choix parmi les 9 peintures et les 4 sculptures recommandées par le Jury des achats de l’exposition. Le Musée retient dans un premier temps La tourbière de Postel par Van Leemputten (cat salon n° 341), Un intru par Alice Ronner (cat. du salon n° 341) ainsi que deux cadres de médailles, par Roty et Chaplain (cat. salon n° 693 et 694). En janvier 1888, lors d’un second examen, elle retient finalement les œuvres de Van Leemputten (inv. 3047), De Vriendt (inv. 3046) et Charlier (inv. 3048).
