Un laboratoire existe au Musée depuis 1928 (lettre de Léo van Puyvelde au secrétaire général, datée 19/09/1946). Celui-ci a été équipé petit à petit jusqu’à ce qu’en 1946 ait été créé le « Laboratoire central et Archives centrales iconographiques » (ACL) dont la direction fut confiée à Coremans. Mécontentement de Léo van Puyvelde.
