En 1886, le gouvernement a acquis du peintre Verheyden une première version de ce tableau, sous réserve d’échange ultérieur contre une composition identique de plus grand format. C’est cette répétition grand format qui est soumise au Musée en 1893. En 1899, le tableau n’a pas encore été catalogué.
