Selon Gauchez, il s’agit du modèle original d’une statue qui devait être élevée à Londres en l’honneur de Rubens mais qui n’a jamais été exécutée. Le Musée a cependant acquis la preuve que la terre cuite est une reproduction habile obtenue par estampage.
